Nick Fuentes calls Erika Kirk’s tribute to Charlie Kirk “disgusting”
Nick Fuentes has called an email from Erika Kirk to Turning Point USA members “disgusting.”
The white nationalist, who also claims to be Catholic, posted a photo of Erika Kirk’s emotional message to her husband’s followers with the caption: “This is disgusting.” In the email, Erika wrote: “I don’t know how else to begin except with this: I miss him. Every breath. Every heartbeat. Every memory I now replay in my mind... I miss him.”
Fuentes has a cult-like following, with his adherents calling themselves “Groypers,” a name derived from a variant of the internet meme Pepe the Frog.
Madonna criticises Pope Leo’s Gospel message in viral Catholic thread
The pop icon Madonna has caused a social media storm after criticising Pope Leo in a comment on a CNA (Catholic News Agency) Instagram post.
CNA posted a picture of the American pontiff with the words “My priority is the Gospel, not the world’s problems.” The caption referred to an excerpt from his recent interview with Crux senior correspondent Elise Ann Allen, where the Pope said: “I don’t see my primary role as trying to be the solver of the world’s problems. I don’t see my role as that at all, really, although I think that the Church has a voice, a message that needs to continue to be preached, to be spoken and spoken loudly.”
Cardinal Cupich under fire over Lifetime Award for pro-abortion senator
Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago is facing mounting criticism from two prominent American bishops.
Senator Dick Durbin, a long-serving Illinois Democrat with a record of supporting abortion legislation, is to receive a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Archdiocese of Chicago. The award, due to be presented on 3 November at the annual Keep Hope Alive fundraiser for the archdiocese’s immigration ministry, is intended to recognise Durbin’s decades of advocacy for migrants. The senator, who is Catholic, has been one of the principal sponsors of immigration reform in the U.S. Congress. Yet the choice has provoked a strong reaction because of Durbin’s longstanding support for abortion.
US study links traditional Catholic practices to stronger belief among American Catholics
A new study has found that Pre-Vatican practices are strongly associated with belief in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
The research, by Dr Natalie A. Lindemann of William Paterson University, appears in the latest volume of the Catholic Social Science Review. It builds on her earlier work by using a larger and more representative sample of American Catholics and examining additional factors influencing Eucharistic belief.

Minnesota mothers call for gun reform after Catholic church shooting
Three mothers whose children survived the shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Plymouth, Minnesota, have spoken publicly in favour of stricter gun laws.
The mothers addressed a town hall meeting over the weekend, called in response to the tragedy of 27 August, when two children were killed and 21 others injured during a school Mass.
The attack began when transgender shooter Robin Westman, 23, opened fire through the stained-glass windows of the church. Among the victims were Fletcher Merkel, aged eight, and ten-year-old Harper Moyski, both of whom died from their injuries.
The power of Erika Kirk’s forgiveness after Charlie Kirk’s murder
The murder of Charlie Kirk has sparked a vast amount of political comment over the last 12 days. A murder committed by what President Trump has called the “radical left”, and celebrated by the heinous words of the punk duo Bob Vylan, the political divide has been particularly apparent.
In the aftermath of his death, many have pointed to his immense contribution to the conservative cause: his necessary role in the success of MAGA, and his ability to speak to a generation tired of the decadence embraced by the one before them. Some have also eulogised Kirk’s Christian witness and what Chris Tomlin described as his “bold and unashamed” faith.
What is the point of prayer?
In a previous article on predestination, I acknowledged that what is going to happen to us in the future is already known and willed by God. This is a necessary belief from our understanding of God as the ground of all being, the reason for everything, beyond space and time, and therefore incapable of being either surprised or disappointed.
Being, as He is, outside time, God must also be incapable of changing His mind. Change is something that takes place in time, and God, being eternal, must also be changeless. And indeed, if we could change God’s mind in any way, then we would have some power over Him, which is not to be thought of.
Tucker Carlson tells Charlie Kirk memorial that the real solution is Jesus
Speaking at the memorial of Charlie Kirk, Tucker Carlson emphasised that Jesus is the solution, not political ideology.
Carlson followed White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and used much of his reflection to point out that while Kirk was politically motivated and deeply engaged in driving political change, his message was fundamentally a gospel one.
Jimmy Kimmel suspended from show after Charlie Kirk comments
The late-night TV host and star has been suspended by the ABC television network for his comments on the killing of Charlie Kirk following pressure from the Trump administration, according to reports.
The suspension of Kimmel – a practising Catholic – which swiftly followed a veiled threat of regulatory action, has raised concerns that US President Donald Trump and his team are attempting to curtail the free speech of their critics, reports the BBC.
Pope Leo speaks on the Traditional Latin Mass
Pope Leo XIV has said that divisions over the Traditional Latin Mass risk turning into ideology, warning that the liturgy must never be used as a “political tool.”
His comments came in the second part of an interview with Crux, conducted by Elise Ann Allen, in which he discussed the aims of a new study group on the liturgy.
Five-week US pilgrimage leads to thousands of Americans kneeling before the Eucharist
The 2025 National Eucharistic Pilgrimage concluded in Los Angeles on June 22 after covering 3,300 miles across ten states, stopping in 20 dioceses and drawing thousands of Catholics to public acts of devotion.
The pilgrimage began in Indianapolis on 18 May, the site of last year’s National Eucharistic Congress, and ended 35 days later at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. It formed part of the US bishops’ three-year Eucharistic revival, aimed at strengthening belief in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
Charlie Kirk’s murder and reactions to it indicate a society in moral freefall
It feels that in recent years speculations about civil war breaking out in the United States have skyrocketed.
Almost daily, as we drip feed on the depressing content of our news cycle, many of us find ourselves looking for a type of latter-day “Franz Ferdinand moment” that preceded World War I: a spark that will tip the US into internicine conflict.

This year’s US Leaders Special Report reflects the new realities of American public affairs. The shooting of Charlie Kirk is a spiritual crisis, not just a political one
In a moment that seemed straight from a dystopian horror novel, conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk, was shot in the neck during an event on his “American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University.
The attack occurred as he addressed a packed crowd beneath a tent emblazoned with slogans like “Prove Me Wrong” – a cruel irony given the events that would unfold. A single shot rang out from a nearby building, striking Kirk left of centre and sending ripples of horror across the political spectrum.

The Catholic Herald can exclusively reveal the names of the Augustinian friars said to be living alongside Pope Leo XIV in the papal residence, after weeks of speculation in the Italian press.
