The Magazine

The Catholic Herald is one of the oldest and trusted Catholic publications in the world dating back to 1888.

As a voice of faith for the last 136 years, the Catholic Herald has grown to over 5 million readers (digital and print) per year, including popes, cardinals, presidents, and prime ministers. Unique monthly visitors have average are 500,000 with 630,000 in Dec 2023.

Its world-class team of writers, editors, and reporters, along with a unique digital archive spanning back to the first publication in 1888, delivers high-quality and independent Catholic journalism across the world.

Founded in London in 1888, the Catholic Herald is one of the world’s oldest and most respected Catholic current affairs and arts publications. After 136 years in the United Kingdom, the magazine is now working to launch editions in a number of other countries around the world to establish itself as a highly influential Catholic voice globally.

The magazine celebrates the richness of Catholicism with many of the world’s top cultural commentators and Vatican watchers writing of it.  (including John Allen, Jr. Piers Paul Read, John Cornwall and Antonia Fraser), as well as top Cardinals and lay/religious leaders.

The Catholic Herald has broken many stories in its time, including the death of Pope Pius XII in 1958. Before becoming British Prime Minister in 1978, Margaret Thatcher chose the Catholic Herald to talk candidly about her religious philosophy. We continue to break major stories as in 2022 when the Herald published Cardinal Pell’s Prison Journal with an introduction by George Weigel.

The Catholic Herald has recently launched a 24-hour digital strategy and turned the weekly publication into a ‘must-read’ glossy monthly, with it remaining the jewel in the crown of the Herald’s media assets.

Over her past several years, the Catholic Herald has reached several milestones, including:

  • Prioritizing the Catholic Herald social media presence, including an app for mobile devices and investing in different social media platforms, we have since February 2023:

    • Grown Facebook subscribers by 26%

    • Grown X (Twitter) subscribers by 15%

    • Increased Catholic Herald Website page visits by 33% (Feb 23 – Sep 23)
